July 13, 2017

The arrival of summer is always an exciting time of the year. School is out for summer break and it's time for vacations, summer camps and relaxation. The days are filled with sunshine and warm weather, providing a great opportunity to embark on various activities that you normally don't have time for throughout the rest of the year. It's important to make family time a priority, and summer typically provides extra time to spend bonding with your children. Here are six ideas for family activities you can try out this summer.

1. Road trip

A family road trip is a great way to make memories that will last for a life-time. Build a quickroad trip checklist, pack up the necessary supplies, fill the gas tank and hit the open road. Whether you go for a day trip, or extend it for a week or two, road trips are a great way to get out of the house and check out new destinations where you’ve never been before. If you’re feeling really bold, why not make it a tech free trip? Just imagine what you might learn about each other after a few hours uninterrupted by phones or other devices. Why not plan a summer road trip for your family today?!

2. Waterpark

For most locations in North America, summer brings bright sunshine and hot temperatures. Local waterparks are great for both kids and parents have fun and cool off. Find a nearby waterpark and enjoy a day in wave pools, on waterslides or floating down a lazy river. Waterparks are a great way to ensure that your children stay active and cool at the same time. Remember to take the necessary precautions when enjoying a full day in the sun.

3. Camping

Camping trips provide a great opportunity to refresh the body and mind while enjoying nature and all it has to offer. There are all kinds of fun activities to do when you’re camping, such as hiking, canoeing, and many other camping games. Keep in mind that camping takes some planning and preparation so take the time to do thi. If you really can’t handle roughing it, renting a cottage will offer you many of the benefits of camping in a more comfortable fashion.

4. Sporting Event

Summer is a great time to check out a local sporting event. Whether it’s a baseball or soccer, tennis or ultimate frisbee, you don’t have to be a die hard sports fan to appreciate a competitive outdoor game when the weather is beautiful. Whether you root for a local amateur team, or you spend a little more to go watch a professional team, it will be a great experience for you and your children to share together.

5. Drive-in Movie

Drive-in theatres are hard to find today, however if you find one in your area, the outdoor experience of a drive-in theatre is lots of fun for you and your family. You can pack your own snacks or buy your popcorn and drinks there. Bring along lawn chairs and setup outside or feel watch the movie from the comfort of your own vehicle. This inexpensive, unique experience is a great family activity that you can enjoy together. Make sure that you get there early if you want a front row spot.

6. Volunteer Experience

Volunteering some of your time for a local cause is a great opportunity for personal development. It has many benefits for you and your children and no matter where you are, there are always great volunteer opportunities available. It provides a great opportunity to share with your children the importance of helping others and giving back to the community.
